Imran Khan Accuses Pakistan Judges Over 'Inhumane Treatment' Of Wife Bushra Bibi: 'Sold Their Souls For Personal Gain'

New Delhi: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has raised serious questions about the country's judicial system in a scathing message from jail. In a phone call with his son, Kasim Khan, on the occasion of Eid, he expressed deep concern over the alleged "inhumane treatment" of his wife, Bushra Bibi, in prison and said the "judges have sold their souls".

What did Imran Khan say?

Imran Khan alleged that Pakistan's ruling system is unable to subdue him, so his wife is being used as a "weapon of blackmail."

"The judges in this country should be ashamed of themselves. Time and again we have gone to the judiciary but they have sold their souls for personal gain. They have sold their integrity. They know they cannot break me, so they turn to my wife," Khan said. 

"How can they allow this inhumane treatment of Bushra Bibi, simply to blackmail me?"

According to tweet, these remarks were made by Imran Khan in a phone call with his son, Kasim Khan, on the occasion of Eid.

What about Imran's health?

Imran Khan has undergone eye surgery for the third time, according to the Hospital officials. The 73-year-old Imran Khan is suffering from a severe eye condition known as Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO). According to reports, he has lost approximately 85 percent of his vision.

A report regarding this condition was submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in January. He was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, where the eye surgery was performed. The former cricketer-turned-politician and founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party received the third dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.

What about Bushra Bibi?

Bushra Bibi has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail since January. Imran Khan claimed that she has been kept in almost complete isolation. 

"They know they cannot break me, so they turn to my wife. How can they allow this inhumane treatment of Bushra Bibi (his third wife), simply to blackmail me? She spends 24 hours a day in isolation, except for 30 minutes with me per week - and even that is often ignored," Imran Khan said.

Khan also said that it was "un-Islamic" to harm women, children and the elderly, and their motives are plain and clear."

What about Imran's health update?

As per the report, on February 15, Imran Khan underwent a detailed medical check up, which was conducted by a special medical board.

The special medical board included Professor Dr Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Khan from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to the report, the 73 year old’s central macular thickness has reduced from 550 to 350. The vision in his affected right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9. Without glasses, his right eye vision was recorded at 6/24. And the left eye was 6/9. With corrective glasses, the right eye improved to 6/9, and the left eye reached 6/6.

When was Imran arrested?

The 73-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, has been in jail since August 2023, after he was convicted in a string of cases.

According to Imran, the cases were politically driven following his ouster in a 2022 parliamentary vote.
